  1. The newest edition to FTLs handmade “Twinspin” range. The Twinspin (Rainbow) has proven itself on Trout and Perch time and time again. www.ftllures.com
  2. I found this lure online, and decided to try my hand at copying it. My buddy and I want to target tiderunner weakfish this season, I think this might work.
  3. Wanted to find out how hard it would be to powder coat opposite sides a different color.
  4. I found a picture of an antique lure from the 1800's. I thought it's a great design and set out to steal it. This is version number 4. The third one worked as intended, but was still delicate. This one is constructed of copper tube and copper sheet soldered together. Stainless steel center wire, and two nose grommets to act as sort of washers. It's surprisingly heavy for its size, casts nice, and retrieves with a little wiggle and a slow spin. Next up is to try a few more and powder coat them, but it's basically done. All I need now is for the tiderunner weakfish to start their run...
  5. I found a picture of an antique lure from the 1800's. I thought it's a great design and set out to steal it. This is the third version cobbled together from soda can and Capri Sun straw. Decided the weight was moot and removed it. This one stays under and spins! I had found a few more pics by now, and those showed the original sported a tail-not a bare hook. That seems to have made the difference.
  6. I found a picture of an antique lure from the 1800's. I thought it's a great design and set out to steal it. This is the second version cobbled together from soda can and Capri Sun straw. Trailing weight from first one was shifted to the center. I thought the weight was adversely affecting the spin. Turned out this one also did not spin well, still wanted to plane.
  7. I found a picture of an antique lure from the 1800's. I thought it's a great design and set out to steal it. This is the first version cobbled together from soda can and Capri Sun straw. Trailing a tail weight for plugs. Did not perform well. It wanted to sort of create lift and plane, rather than spin.

    Jon's Salmon Slammer

Jon's Salmon Slammer uses a spent .223 AR-15 bullet casing with eyes for the lure body. The Salmon Slammer mimicks two of a salmons favorite foods: candlefish and squid. This lure design has caught hundreds of both King (Chinook) and Siver (Coho) salmon

  11. A pair of Muskie Bucktails I made with #9 Fluted Indiana Blades. Both baits have single 5/0 hand tied treble's dressed with Marabou and bucktail. The main bodies have a combo of Bucktail and Feathers, with a Crystal Flash/Tinsel for accents. With the marabou, the baits look like they are breathing in the water.

  12. homemade spinner using mixed materials: blade made from stainless steel eating utensil/ spoon, Clevis made from drilled/ flat stainless stainless steel, bone bead drilled out & carved in Skull style, w bead chain inserted through eye sockets & wrapped in copper wire, chartreuse green maribou attached in same bead, drilled red dice, with assorted beads, painted steel weight body, and hand tied black buck tail on 1/0 treble hook. This thing THROBS due to the deep cup shape of this tablespoon blade. I catch pike on this in 15-25 feet of very weedy, tinted green water. the skull bead w/chain spins as does the dice . ...I say a prayer and roll the dice every time I use this, I'm still trying to break 40" lol

    Fish spinner

Wanted to make a spinner that has a unique look. Made the master from my daughters modeling clay and then made mold from Oomoo30. Added vire and put lead on it and class rattle to the end so it makes more noise. then used smooth-cast 300 on the mold.after that just varnish, gold flakes and paint plus 3d eyes and varnish. Spinner blade is from lureparts online and the beads are ones i use on fly tying.

This was inspired after seeing the new Arbogast lure. I didn't have any buzz bait blades lying around, so I used a smaller blade instead.

  21. I got the idea for this bait from a book on making wooden fishing lures. I changed it some from what the book said but it works great for bass and brook trout as well.
  22. Made these lures from materials , that I still had idling around the shop , ....want to fish them in some smaller rivers coming Saturday . Blades are homemade from 0,5mm stainless steel sheet , heads are cut from 12mm dia. brass rod and hook tinsels consist of linnen and metallic twine from the sewing store , ....fixed with a piece of shrinktube , ....wire material is 1,0mm stainless welding wire . They do work OK , just tested them in the bath tub tonite .
