  1. I was recently asked this question by an angler. Hope some of you might know a little more than me. So I'am going to copy the question as it was asked for you to share your 2 cents. Q: I recently bought out some molds from a tackle company that is no longer in service. The original owners sold it to the person who is no longer producing the lures. The lures and supplies were sold thru auction, which is were I got mind. I paid very good money for all of this, things include spoons, molds for plastics, the spoon forming machine. I saw that the baits were stocked in many bait shops and big stores like fleet farm. A year after I bought all of that, I saw that they were no longer in the stores. Bait shops have asked to me to keep producing them but don't know if I could. I search for copy rights under the company name and patents for the lures themselves, but nothing appears. Can I produce the same baits under different company name, and name the lures different from the original names and keep the lures going? I was under the impression that I could but I was warned by fellow anglers. I tried to make contact with the last owner, but he doesn't return my calls. Any help or advice you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks-
  2. Ok, I have read all the threads on the site referring to the good, bad, and ugly regarding patents, knock offs, and attempting to get a lure out to a lure manufacture. Has anyone actually gone through the process successfully and created a lure, patented it, had attorneys draft NDA and non-compete agreement, trademark...then marketed said patent pending shape to a mfg and license it to them for the typical cash +3% or even just the 3% all without ever trying to mfg and sell it themselves first. Most of the ones i've heard about all have mfg and sold it themselves first. I do know 1 guy that works directly with a mfg to make flies and the mfg pays him 3% of sales royalty. Are there success stories other than this one guy? any and all input is appreciated
  3. Hi everyone. Has anyone ever had the experience of patenting a soft bait, register a trademark for soft baits or hire someone for such procedure. I already own the the patent of a soft bait and trademark in Mexico but I would like to know the exact procedure on the US. Thanks in advance
