problem pouring round dropshot sinkers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, has anyone had a problem pouring the round sinkers? It seems the swivels don't spin. I'm using the #7 Do-it swivels which the mold calls for. The collar and the line tie are clean. Appreciate and suggestions anyone has. Is there another supplier I can get them from? I purchased this batch from Barlow's.

Thanks

Vince

Vince,

I have both molds the round and the finesse, and don't have problems with either. I bought all my swivels, from Do-It Molds. I have never had a problem with the swivels. I buy them by the thousands. I don't know where Barlow's gets them from so I can't say. If they don't spin before you put them in the mold, call up Barlow's and explain the problem.

The dude at Janns told me that there is gonna be another maker for the drop shot swivel, And if I remember right they are gonna be easier on our wallets. As of the quality, I am unsure. we will have to wait and see. I poured a few batches of the Finesse Drop shots and the swivels had no problems.

Maybe try another batch to see that clears your problem up.

This may be a problem caused by the swivel metal being too clean. The molten lead is adhering and flowing into the swivel.

Untried suggestion, you could try lightly heating the swivel with a yellow flame to soot them up. Don't heat too much or you will spoil the mechanical properties of the metal.

Thanks Cadman for the tip about buying the swivels direct from Do-it. My bulk supply came in yesterday and I poured a bunch tonight. Seems they work just fine. Funny how the ones from Barlow's have the Do-it name on the package, maybe they are subbing with cheaper ones!

Thanks again
