Newbie Question

Recommended Posts

After looking at this site for awhile and finally deciding to take a shot at making my own jigs I finally registered here on TU. I have learned quite a bit from reading old posts and using the search feature to research some stuff. Hopefully someone will be able to help me with a couple questions. I know there are many pots out there but which one would suit my needs as I plan on pouring jigs up to 1oz for myself and a couple of friends. Would the Lee 10lb production or 20lb production be better?? Also the mold I plan to order is the Do-It Poison Tail mold for 1/2, 3/4, 1oz. My question is will another hook fit this mold. I am not a big fan of the wide gap hook and I notice mustad makes another 28* hook that is just a round bend in the 4/0 and 5/0 which is what this mold calls for. Would this hook work or would I need to alter my mold to make it fit? Hopefully with the wealth of knowledge here I can get pointed in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

If you don't plan on doing that many jigs, get the smaller one. No need to pay to heat up 20# if you aren't going to be pouring that much at one sitting. I have the RCBS 22# pot, and almost never fill it past half way when I'm using it. Even if I am pouring sinkers, say 1 oz'ers, I do around 500 in a session and still don't go over 1/2 way.
