just rip it in half use the 4x8 side lay it flat on the coupling and shove the pipe in. Cut the excess off with a razer bade. On the ABS being better it isnt works the same just cheaper! It isnt pressure rated like PVC just drain pipe. On the aquarium pump one with two ports is enough for a 2" fluid bed. Use a tee to connect the to sides if there isnt enough air. If you get a bigger pump you might be able to run two fluid beds on one pump. PS dayooper on this site makes a good fluid bed that every one loves. I dont know him but he is regarded highly on this site. That tells the story for me! always helps. also he sells powder paint.

Thanks very much. I'll give it a try and I'll see if I can aggravate myself.

OK, Built one this weekend and it worked like gangbusters. The paper bag membrane works very well. I also used male and female threaded adapters to hold it in place as recommended elsewhere on here.
I had a double discharge type air pump and simply tee'd the lines together to a surplus ice maker water valve which worked well to modulate air flow. I glued the bottom cap onto a 2X3 reducing coupling for a stable base. Overall, very satisfied and I want to thank you guys for the help and guidance. Best regards all. #24Posted 05 July 2007 - 10:28 AM
I still can't find the base material for the fluid beds. I tried to order porous polypropylene from Small Parts.com and they discontinued it. Does anyone know where to get this stuff? I want to be able to change colors quickly and use just a couple bases. Paper is a hassle when your doing tons of jigs!

What size/thickness is the membrane on www.mcmaster.com? I have found about 100 different options. Any help?

How much powder paint per fluid bed size?

I can regulate that by varying the height or length of the piece of 2" pipe I use. I simply glue a 2" piece of pipe to the male adapter. I dump a whole jar in there (2 oz.). Figure on it raising up at least one inch when the air is on from an "at rest" level.

Tutorial??? I'm starting to powder paint my jigs and I think pictures and such would make this much easier to understand. If anyone has the time I know I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I was reading this post and am in need of a fluid bed. Does anyone have actual plans so I can make one?

Just made my first fulid bed. The instructions here were good.
But, here is what I did with the paper bag. I used both a paper bag and also tried some butcher paper I had. I have a roll of butcher paper that I got from Gordon Food Services. You can use it for tons of things. Great for putting under the project and collecting whatever. Anyhow, it works great for spilled Powder Paint as well - wonder how I found that out? What you can do to hold the paper in place is take a test cap and cut out the bottom - removing all but the flange and the vertical side. Then press that into the paper and it seals it into the tube. Trim any excess paper. Florida Don #37Posted 07 March 2008 - 01:20 PM
If anyone needs instructions to build or pics of a fluid bed you can email me at fishcrzy1@mail.com and I will try and get it to ya. I made a round 4 inch one for doing my spinnerbaits and it works great.

Guys this thread made me register for the site. I've been wondering if I could build my own fluid bed and it looks like the answer is yes. Thank you for the information and I hope I can contribute stuff in return.
