Just got a Hook And Hackle email that says effective 1/1/09 Mustad has discontinued making their "Classic" line of hooks. To me this means they are stopping making the 33903 'S' kink shank hook.
Can anybody verify this?
Thanks.

Watch over at www.flyanglersonline.com in the fly tying section and there is a thread on it, with a reply from Jeff aka Dr. Fish who is a rep for Mustad. YES they are going away and he's going to post a comparison chart between the classic style and the new ones. Lot's of folks are really pissed about it too!!!!!!! A lot of questions come to mind.
1. Does "classic" hooks include just fly hooks or other fishing hooks such as trebles, jig, saltwater, etc.? Mustad's site shows: Product News Mustad's definition of classic includes trebles, doubles, snap rings and who knows what else! 2. What hooks are going to be discontinued and which hooks are going to be replaced? Mustad's site Product News shows only 17 old classic hooks incorporated into 36 new signature hooks. Mustad's sales rep on FAOL says ALL old classic hooks are going to be incorporated into the new series. Will they? The 09 Anglers Workshop catalog shows 18 old into 35 new but they sell 27 classic hooks. What will happen? 3. What if the new hook does not adequately replace the old hook? Gonna be interesting! Good luck! John |
