Posted February 4, 2009 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 UV protection it exactly that it should protect what is underneath it. put that aside one thing that yellows epoxys it exposure to heat like being left in the rod locker for the summer.I have had epoxy yellow without seeing a day of sunlight... hazmail Posted February 4, 2009 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 KCK- I know what you mean with the heat bit, I lost about 10 flatfish while fishing last summer, they got so hot in the sun they expanded to about double their size. I tried to give a lure some UV protection by spraying it with a clear gloss rattle can finish with UV protection. They'll still yellow, just at a slower rate. No clear stops all UV rays, that's why there's exterior and interior grade pigments. Some rays always get through. Acrylics and automotive urethanes(not household urethanes) offer the best UV pretection. Both have a natural resistance, even without additives.
