painting over clear coat

7 posts in this topic

Was wondering if its possible to paint directly over the clear coat?was thinking of applying scales over clear to give it a 3d look,of course it would give the bait slightly more weight having two coats of clear.

Can this be done or has anyone done this? Thanks for your input.

I have done it with no problems on larger baits. It will make the bait heavier and add more bulk.I guess it could affect some baits like suspending lures.

There are those who use epoxy as a wood sealer. So painting on epoxy is not a problem at all. I would scuff the smooth epoxy 1st b4 painting to let the paint have more "bite". (Mechanical bond is the more technical term for it)

If you shoot lacquer then there will be no problem. Just shoot it. You won't have to do any prep at all.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm still working on this one and should have it finished tonight .I used a very fine Emory paper to scuff the surface and the cretex is sticking well.I mess up the paint the first time and had to start over.
