Tubes instead of GY Skirts?

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of designing a creature. I was thinking of cutting tubes and welding them to my creature instead of GY style skirts. Anyone tried this? I can see the benefits; cheaper, faster, no injection molding, etc.

Can anyone tell me a downside? I know the GY style skirts are bulky, which I see as a good thing. I don't know if that is achievable with a tube.

I haven't made tubes yet, so I haven't been able to experiment. Can you make tubes with salt with the dipping method? Seems like it would settle pretty fast.

Their is a post about 'soldering' plastics together, that would suit your application nicely: http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/soft-plastics/16733-problem-attaching-skirts.html post No8 even has a video of the process.

The bulk problem could be addressed by making a large and small diameter tube and inserting one inside the other, prior to soldering.

The only down side to all this, is labor time.
