Crackle Paint

9 posts in this topic

I mainly use lacquer automotive paint for my lures and have had a lot of requests for different color patterns with crackle. Can anyone out there help me out on where I can buy crackle paint? A friend of mine use to use one but he said they quit making it a while ago. I am mainly looking for something that will cause a heavy crackle pattern. Thanks for any help on where I can buy this and also how to use it.

I think it is a coating that you apply to or under another paint.I am not entirly sure. I know you can get the stuff at craft stores mostly. Michaels, hobby lobby, etc....

Yes, the crackle I've seen is done over a "crackle medium". You apply the medium, dry it (or not) and then spray paint over it and it crackles as it dries. I've only done it with acrylic latex, so can't help on crackle medium for lacquers.

Thanks guys. I thought a while back Mohawk sold something for doing crackle but not sure if they still have it either. I'll check and see what they have at Michaels. I didn't even think of that place.
