Etex Questions

Recommended Posts

I prefer artist brushes and want them clean between sessions. You can use denatured alcohol, lacquer thinner, or acetone. I mostly use lacquer thinner - it's volatile enough to clean well but not so volatile it evaporates quickly (like acetone). How you do it is important. Wipe off excess epoxy, put the brush in the solvent, swish it around and spread the bristles out on the bottom of the jar, take it out and brush it vigorously on a clean cloth. Repeat. Takes less than a minute. The brush lasts indefinitely. I'm still using brushes I bought 4 years ago. Once epoxy begins to set, the brush it toast.

A lot of guys who use Etex let it rest for 10-15 mins after mixing so that it's not so soupy when they brush it on. Turner speed is relative to the viscosity of the epoxy and how thickly you apply it. There's really no rule - if you get sags or drips, it's too slow. If not, it's just dandy.
