Rtv Mold Made Easy

Recommended Posts

Here is my method:

Step 1: Gather supplies (LEGO blocks, RTV, Mixing containers, stir sticks, and, of course, your master lure)

Step 2: After gluing your master to a piece of ceramic tile, build your mold container out of LEGOs. I put Elmer's Craft Bond around the mold container to seal it. This glue dries flexible, and is easily removed once you are finished.

Mix RTV per diections:

Step 3: Pour slowly and with a thin stream. A thin stream minimizes bubbles. Also, start in a corner of the mold container and let the RTV flow over the master.

Step 4: Allow RTV to cure (I use Alumilite Quick-Set, so de-mold time is approx. 4 hours). Remove mold from Container/master and get to pouring.

I hope this helps someone with some new tricks, or something they may have forgotten.
