Swam My 8" Swimbait Today

Recommended Posts

I tested my 8" bass today before work. It floats upright with it's back even with the waters' surface and the plastic tail fin sticks out about a quarter of an inch. It swims at the same level..right at the surface and pushes water out in front of it. Stays up right even on a quick retrieve. Short twitches cause it to turn head-first about 90 degrees. Is this considered a wake bait? How do you guys fish this bait? I have never fished a topwater swimbait. No one down here in Louisiana uses this stuff. I'm sure I can figure it out. Just wondering what the preferred tactic is. Thanks.

I fished my lipless wakebaits a while on the steady retrieve.. slow swimming and got some bites but a couple guys who fish my baby bass wakebaits were telling me they get blasted just letting it sit and giving it a twitch here and there kinda like a popper. I tried this and Whammo twice the bites.. try pitching it into pockets and letting it sit till the fish cant take it anymore and kill the thing.

That's what i'm talkin about..that's a tactic i'm used to. Like twitchin a rapala around cover.

The Lake I fish is full of submerged wild celery (eel grass), and is gin clear. I wonder if a little slow rolling above those grassbeds would work also.

I'd like to see your baby bass. I'll do a search in the gallery. Thanks for the input.
