I can sympathize with you<groan>. For hard to find fly fishing material, I usually start with Google and Bling's advanced search like you did. If no results then I look in Black's Fly Fishing Directory enlistees and email distributors with a question like, "Do you stock something like (picture or link) except 1/16" by 10 inches long?" If they can't help me or refer me to someone who carries it then, I'll move on to jewelry and findings places, artist supplies, craft places, Alibaba, furniture re finishers, saltwater tackle places, other lure and fly tying forums and so on.

Have you considered having somebody cut sheeting into 1/16" strips? Have you considered having someone extrude flashabou type vinyl in 1 /16" strips? The list goes on and on. I usually wind up going in circles and re plowing ground and places I've been before.

But keep the faith. Keep looking. Good luck!

John

I haven't used any mylar/tinsel before in white, but it is a good idea. At the time I first read your post, I couldn't think of anything off the top of my head, but later while I was searching for something unrelated I came across a Kreinik product (Kreinik Flash In A Tube™) that might work for you? The only issues are that it appears to be narrower (more along the lines of standard Flashabou) and the particular listing I found seems to be for a bulk amount ($21.95). If you don't want it all, I can buy half of it. :) Anyway, here is the link and the color is about half way down the page (100HL - White High Lustre). Good luck.

My mistake...there was a regular sized hank listed at $3.30; however, it is only 7" long, which is quite a bit shorter than the bulk version.

Lots of sources for the trolling fly material but most is 4-5 inches long and not 10". Places like Big Weenie tackle, Siggs Rigs and great lakes fishing carry the banded material by the yard.

Check out this stuff which is used for making "Double Cow Girl type bucktails" . 10 inch section for $3.99 other choices also. Pick and choose. I have also bought it at Bass Pro Shop in the trout fly tying section. Musky Glenn
