I want 2 recarpet my Bass Tracker and I need some advise. What do you recommend for carpet and/or glue, What OZ. carpet? What should I avoid? Any pointers? Thanx!!!

I've re-carpeted two boats in the past and am working another now. I have always used contact cement and rolled it on to the boat AND the carpet with a 4-inch paint roller. Make sure that you get a coating and let it dry before you set it. Roll your larger pieces up so that you'll be able to handle them easier. No, the dried glue will not stick to the carpeted side. I would suggest that you carpet the larger places FIRST. That way you will have extra carpet left if you screw it up. The you can use your leftover pieces and scrap to do your smaller areas. Make sure you have your carpet where you want it before you set it down because once it's stuck it's there for good. One gallon should do your boat. Buy the best carpet you can get unless you want to be doing it again in the next few years.

.......or if you really suck at that type of thing like I do, just roll on some Durabak. It will last for years and easy to keep clean.

Lincoya is right on with the contact glue, I've never had any luck with the marine carpet glue, won't hold carpet on rounded edges like contact will. Or if you want something that you won't have to take much care of go with what 152 St. Baits said. If you go with carpet buy the best you can afford. There really is a difference in quality of marine carpets. Musky Glenn

Some of the contact cement should be called "I BLOWS YOUR HOUSE UP." You may have to be well vented and away from any heat source. The stuff I have done lately is with cement that is not volatile. #6

amd also remember to use it with the grain or part of your job will look like a checkerboard and contact cement is the only way unless you want a hard surface then go with something like a truckbed spray in lining
