new rogues and cranks

Recommended Posts

Some pics of a few new baits before I stick them in a cedar tree somewhere...pics are not my best work, shot them kind of quickly last night. Will try to get some better pics, esp of the holo stripe rogues...lots of flash.

Interested to hear thoughts on the "upside down" rogue. So far I get about 50/50 "that makes a lot of sense" / "why?". Seems like it would help the bait imitate a dying shad.

More pics are up at my yahoo photo site if interested:

Dave,

They all look great. We have sold around 300 of the upside down jobs but most of them have been on suspending shad raps. Have had some of the guys swear by them and have had others make us repaint them right side up so I don't know what to think. I guess we'll just keep painting what every they want.

re: upside down rogue...

...have not been able to get on much of a rogue bite yet this year, mostly jigs. Did catch a 19 1/2" smallie sunday on one of my mylar foil rogues (big rogue), but otherwise just a few, mostly on purple scale back with the holo scales.

One of the members of my local club is a fairly well recognized Central Pro Am amateur angler, said he fished with a pro from Arkansas who had all his rogues painted that way.

It is definitely a little weird. To me it should work best in VERY cold water, esp if your lake is experiencing a shad kill...late Dec to early Mar maybe. Once it warms up to the point where you can "pop" that rogue along a little quicker I think it will be less useful. Not so sure it would not work painted "sideways" also. Hoping to get a little rogue bite going on some smaller local lakes & get some confidence with it.

Beautiful fish. I have only caught 2 smallmouth in my life. Caught them on a buzzbait on Ky. lake. Both fish were less than 1 1/2 lbs. I would love to catch a good one. I have heard so much about them. Seems everywhere I go there aren't much smallmouth close by. Guess it is time for a road trip.
