holo scale rogues, how to

Recommended Posts

Had a few e-mails on this, from my pics posted 4-11. The holo scale is an adhesive transparent film, applied over a clearcoated pearl side. It comes in several patterns and colors. I try to cut mine erratically with the exacto knife so the scale flash and pattern will look like broken scales on an injured shad. Have to give some thought to width, color overlap, placement of details, and so on as well.

Once applied, I make sure all edges are burnished down (this is one of the reasons for the initial clearcoat...otherwise you would risk rubbing off your paint). Then clearcoat it again, cure and off you go. The purple hi-lite scale back bait is the only rogue I have been able to make fish at the rock bite so far this year.
