Wire Lure Scaling

Recommended Posts

I ordered a section of wire lure scaling recently. I went to try it today, but I'm having trouble with it not wanting to go against the squarebill I'm painting. I would like to paint each side but the wire is pushing into the paint. The paint is dry so I'm not sure as to what could be the problem? I know several of you have bought this stencil and used it successfully for scales. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks! I'm assuming it will hold on tight to the lure itself then? No clips needed or anything

Well, the ones I got from www.lurelayouts.com do not need to be clamped, clipped, etc. I just cut a piece big enough to stretch over the back and halfway or so down the sides, pull it tight at the bottom, and, you have an almost exact shape of your lure. Just make sure you do this on an unpainted one and then transfer it to the bait you're working on. They work pretty well, IMO.

Good Luck.
