Pros And Cons Of Split Rings

Recommended Posts

I am thinking particularly of musky baits. I can see where rings allow you to change out hooks. But I can control hook rash much better without, especially on belly hooks.

I an inclined to use them on nose and tail and not on belly.

Any other factors I should be considering?

you maybe loose more fish when you dont use splitrings. they get leverage easier to get off the hook because there is less space for the hook to move against (or compared to?) the lure. i dont know how to say it differenly, i hope its clear. english is not my mother language. in my opinion lures with hook rash catch just as good as lures without.

also if hook rash is that bad you should use more topcoats of epoxy so it wont scrach thru the top coat and allow water to get under the paint/topcoat,as for split rings the good is as stated in the above post and the bad really large fish might be able to break them and get off(but thats what a drag is put on a reel for)
