Splatter Backs

Recommended Posts

If you want to use your airbrush to paint splatters here are a couple ways to do it.

One method is to use a tongue depressor held at a slight angle in front of your nozzle so the spray is directed onto the tongue depressor and then onto the bait. The paint builds up on the depressor in front of the nozzle and it then "sprays" droplets of paint onto the bait. You will have to play with the angle of the depressor and the air pressure as well as the volume of paint being sprayed to get the desired effect.

Another way is to cut a piece of plastic drinking straw about an inch long and stick it over the end of the nozzle. The result is pretty much the same as mentioned above. Paint builds up in the straw and is sprayed in drops onto the bait. Again you will have to play with air pressure settings and amount of paint to get the desired effect.

Good tips Y'all, I forgot about the straw... (like so many other things)... Yodi, if you want a finer type splatter, using a dual action brush, take the cap off your gun, then pull back the paint control a couple of times without air, you will see the droplet on your needle, then shoot it without pulling back. Once you get the hang of it its real easy and you can control your splatter size. But the toothbrush and straw trick are easier if random splatter is wanted.
