Yesterday I mixed up some sky blue plastic, heated it to 350, added some garlic scent, reheated back up to 350, and poured it.
The baits came out soft and sticky.
Is it the scent? The plastisol is a med. that I've poured with before, with no problems.
I got the sky blue with blue and white coloring.
Could the coloring be what's making it sticky?
I'm stumped.
Help!!

Could it be that the plastisol was not stirred enough prior to pouring? What brands of stuff are u using? And why are you reheating after putting in the garlic scent?

who's plastic and how much was used, who's scent and how much scent did you put in to it?

I used 1 cup of Bear's med plastisol, ten drops each of Lurecraft blue and white, and a cap full of garlic scent.
I always reheat after I add anything, because I stir it so well it cools, and I am injecting it with a Cajun injector, so it needs to be right around 340-350 degrees.

I'll tell you what, something did that almost exact same thing to me the other day... I was mixing up a batch of bubblegum worms... For me, I believe it was the LC white... I was almost like glue when it dripped out of my bottle... I don't know what happened to it, so I just ordered a new bottle to try... I haven't even opened the new bottle yet... I believe the LC white made all my baits super sticky... I had to throw out the batch... Kinda sucked!!! Just my 2cents...

Hmmm....I thought I shook both colors up really well.
Now I'm scared to use them again.
I guess I'll have to do a small test batch.

Invert 1 gallon and 2 1/2 containers of plastisol and look @ the bottom under a bright light to detect pastisol hard packing.I always stir the 2/12 and 5 gallons pales w/ a drill attachment. You can see the sticky ,hard pack hanging on the end when you lift it up. Keep on stirring!

If your colorant is very sticky and thick ,add some cold plastisol to it and shake.

Have you used that scent before Mark? You might want to try something more concentrated. I use Kick'n Bass and my baits come out plenty smelly using just a few drops per cup. I've heard good things about Upper Hand scents as well but have no experience with them.

Thanks for the ideas.
I'll shake the snot out of the plastic, and check it for separation. I already shook both of the colors really well, and they dripped out fine.
I'll do a test without the scent to see if that's the problem. I may have added too much. Doh!!!!!

Just an off the wall thought, but is the scent made in worm oil or softener?

It is sounding more and more like I just used too much scent. Operator error. Doh!!!
I won't have a chance to pour again until Friday.
I'll let you know how it goes with no scent.

I doubt it's the scent or the coloring. If you throw a capful of softener into the amount of plastic you cooked up, it wouldn't give you the results you got. A dollar to a doughnut says thye plastic wasn't shaken up enough. That being the case, the rest of your batches will probably come out a litter firmer than nornal since you more than likely used up a bunch of the softener that was on the top of the container.

This gallon of plastic is relatively new, but I shook it well when I first got it, and it has been pouring fine.
I shake it some every time I use it, but I may not have shaken it enough this time. I'll make sure to do so before I do my next test batch.

I got a chance this afternoon to check the plastic bottle.
Do you mean there isn't supposed to be an inch of solid white stuff on the bottom?

Glad you goit it figured out, Mark! That's why I always used M-F. Rock it back and forth a few times and your good for the day. Might cost a little more, I don't know. I do know one thing.......I'm not one for prep work.

Seconded! A lot of scent went into my baits and I never noticed a sticky feel to them. I knew it HAD to be a settling problem, but with all the different plastics available today, I was afraid to post it! lol

Amazing how well plastic pours and injects if you shake it first! Hahaha
