Painting Plastic Baits

Recommended Posts

Hi all

So far I've only painted wooden baits with no problems so this probably sounds too obvious to many of you. I apologise for that.

A friend gave me some plastic blanks to paint and to be honest I just realised I had never painted a clear plastic bait, hence the following question:

What preparation of the plastic body is required to obtain the best result. I use acrylic, oil based and automotive paints in my baits.

Do I need to use any solvents or clean the bodies in any particular way in order to obtain the best possible adherence?

thanks

If the baits are already cleared just scuff them up with some 400 grit wet/dry and clean off. Some like to do a quick dip in acetone to remove any oils and the such that may be on the bait. I myself only lightly scuff them to give the base coat something to grip. It is a good logical question though.
