Crawfish Crank [Pic]

Recommended Posts

thanks Artbrush!

naw, I first used a charcoal pencil to draw the outline then I used a fined tipped sharpie to trace it and then I erased the pencil markings. it's not too bad, but you can tell it was hand drawn.

do you know where I can get stencil for a pattern like this or any suggestion on how i can make my own?

I would recomend making a template of the lure side then sketch on that.

When you have a good B & W line drawing print it on clear water-slide decal sheets.

No stencil can compete with the details that you have on there right now.

Kickass. I still haven't fully recovered from your killer Dbait :)

I think it look awesome too... I too have been playing with making the Balsa D bait style. Only mine are small and dive deeper. I think the total size of mine are 1 3/4 and 2 inches.

I just can't seem to get the blending of colors the way I'd like! I'll try and scan one and post it also...

One question though... How does that bait see!!!!

I've watch you go from the beginning and your doing some really good work!

Your craw bait looks great. If you want

to try something interesting, put the lip

in the rear of the dbait. I tested one

like that today, it swims better backwards

than it does forward. Nice tight wiggle.

I had to add small split shot just behind

the lip slot to get lip down. I guess moving

the hook to the front end raised the tail a tad.

thanks gentlemen for your kind words. feels good to know that others enjoy seeing your work.

I've come a long way since making my first lures! The great members of this site have helped me tremendously in becoming a better lure maker. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to become part of this wonderful FAMILY and for all of the advice!

to answer some questions: freehand? yes, the lure was all done free hand. from the painting to the pattern. the blending of the colors took me a long time to perfect. the pic doesn't really show the various colors that i painted. the colors are orange (bottom), red-orange (middle), and a combination of brown, med. bass green, red and some orange (top). total time spent on paintin 2-3 hrs.

I tested this lure yesterday and was a little disappointed. when in the water it sits sligtly to the left side but water line covers about 3/4 of the lure. when cranked the lure goes to the left and tends to blow outta the water. could the amount of epoxy covering the line tie affect the action of the lure?

What I have found with a bait leaning to one

side or the other is, that the weight is off center

or not enough weight. If your bait is 3/4 under

water, amount of weight is not the problem.

Also, hooks and line tie need to be in a straight

line. Try twisting the line tie a little to the right,

this is called tuning. Then bend it over to the

right, all this facing the front of the bait.

It just sounds like weight off center to me.
