I have a Central Pneumatic 3 gal. compressor from Harbor Freights and I'm using it indoors.

Was wondering if there are any good tips / ideas on how to dampen sound made from compressor. I know there is sound dampening material you can buy but looking for ideas that won't cost $50 or more.

Heat is an issue so you can't just box it in, but MDF is an amazing sound deadener.

Alternatively, the air box is usually the biggest source of noise for a compressor. Plumbing it out outside with a vent hood to prevent drawing water in the rain might help. You should be running a filter drier on the output and draining the tank regularly regardless.
