Found A Source For Lumaflex

Recommended Posts

Today was a great day for me. I found a reliable source for my favorite skirt material on a spinner bait. Lumaflex/spandex what ever you want to call it. Supreme Corp. has it and knows it by lumaflex. They have a small spool of it that measures 2" in Dia. by 8" long and the material is approx 1/2" deep on that spool. The price of that small spool is $16.00. Lumaflex is a thread on a spool that you cut to length to your specs. I shape a coat hanger into Y shape that I can put into my drill and turn it 40 times at slow speed for each skirt. I then add 8 strands of char. to the 40 strands of white. This makes the best char/white skirt for 1/4 and 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits that I have ever used. I don't know how many yds. come on one of these spools but it is much cheaper than buying it already made up into skirts. I am in no way involved with this company, just sharing the address for materials of a good spinner bait skirt. They do not list the material on their web site. Just give them a call or drop by if in the Conover area of NC. Musky Glenn

Mark, you are dead on. That second from left is just like the spinnerbaits I make. I usually use two gold blades but really can't tell the difference. Bass Craft is our local supplier for ready made SB.

The spool is a cardboard tube about the size of two rolls of toilet paper stacked on top of each other. Instead of paper it would have 1/2" of "fine" lumaflex.

I took a wire coat hanger and made a Y shaped frame out of it so that it would fit into my electric drill. I turn the drill on slow and count about 40  strands or 20 revolutions. I tie the middle of the wraps then cut the ends seperate. I use nylon thread to tie them on the spinner bait and coat the thread with clear finger nail polish. I use 40 strands of white and mix in 8 chart. strands.

Of all the post that I have made on this site, this is the most important information I have had the honor of sharing with each of you. You really owe it to your self to try a few of those spinner baits. Musky Glenn

Below is a photo of a white $16.00 spool of lumaflex. Lumaflex stretches about three times it's on length when pulled. I set the spool on the floor and use the wire frame shown to wind loosely about 40 strands. I tie each 40 strands in the middle then cut the ends loose. I usually make about a dozen skirts before I make spinner baits. The spools are 2 inches in dia and 6.5 inches long. There is approx. 7/16 of thread on the spool and that is "many" feet of thread. It goes a long ways.

The brushes I use for epoxy is shown in the packs that I buy for $1.00 per pack at our local Dollar Tree store. Also shown is my Iwata hp-e2 airbrush that I just can't get the hang of using. There isn't anything wrong with the gun, the problem is all me. I just can't get used to controling air and paint at the same time. I use a single action gun and that works best for me. I would like to trade this Iwata for a good single action airbrush.  Musky Glenn

Great share!  Thanks.

The next picture, of the delaminated tire, brought back some bad memories.

I arrived at the ramp once and the entire tread had just vanished.  All I had was side walls and the inner rubber lining, which still held air. After we put the spare on and fished, we looked for the tread all the way down the 5 mile road to the freeway.  As we got on the on ramp, we saw the tread doughnut lying by the side of the off ramp.

So we drove all the way up the hill on that inner tube.

We were sooo lucky....with a single axle trailer, what if it had happened on the freeway at speed?

I'll never buy Cooper Tires again.
