Modified 1.5

Recommended Posts

Trying to model after the Lucky Craft 1.5 spin. Adds additional flash and vibration and the blade will occasionally tick the rear hook causing an erratic reaction causing the bait to hunt. I am also working with a smaller blade that will aim for flash but no interaction with the rear hook. Thoughts!

Because the bait I was replicating had it on the bottom and the rationale made sense. I think if you put it on top it may cause the fish to hit the bait on the top where there are no hooks (if they strike at blade).,,. If they strike blade at bottom they will likely get hooked. Although if the fish inhales the bait there is no problem either way. Also the blade is designed to bump the rear hook and cause an erratic response (similar to what a squarebill does when it hits an object). In addition to the flash and vibration the blade gives you.

I think having the blade on the bottom lets it turn in "clean" water behind the body of the lure.  On top, it would probably hit the lure body and not spin as well.

Probably would cause bait to tip sideways as well. One other point if you pause the bait and it floats up...could be enough to activate the spinner (assuming you use a quality swivel). Possibilities are endless ha ha

I have seen quite a few JDM baits that are beginning to use some sort of "deflector" to interrupt the running pattern of the bait. Makes sense...how many times on a retrieve do you twitch or pause the bait and that is when the strike occurs. I think this is a cool concept ( wish I had thought of it first) :lolhuh:

I know this has nothing to do with the crankbait but I have not put the blades on a crank but I have used the same blades on my jerkbaits for almost 2 years now with mixed results.  You have to put a blade on every hook or the bait will nose dive or tail dive quickly. They look great in the water but it requires a fast cadence or the bait will sink to quickly.  I modified them strictly for the shad spawn in crystal clear water.  Here is a pic.

That's a good looking bait!

How about just attaching the blade to the front hook hanger? It seems like your front treble would be snagging the swivel on the blade.

I have tried every combination for the blades in my test tank and this is the one that has the best action for me.  One blade on the front and the blade nose dives quickly which I didn't like.  Yes the blade does get hung up in the hook from time to time but it doesn't bother anything.  It doesn't change the action or the hook up ability.  The way it is set up right now when I stop the bait it sinks level.  I am by far no expert on this I have just been experimenting with it for a while.

Thanks Mark.  I have been painting that color for a while and it has won me and a few others a couple bucks.
