BuckMaxx
I have a drop shot mold that I took a little too much meat off with the dremel. What do I use to repair it? Can I use JB weld or some other sort of synthetic metal polymer? Thanks!!
smalljaw
JB Weld works great!!
dlaery
I have had good luck with JB weld. Make sure the aluminum is clean. don't try to sand too soon, make sure it is fully cured.
BuckMaxx
Thanks wasn't sure if it would melt or give off fumes. I'll get after it
LimpNoodle
I have a mold that one of the aluminum handles broke off. JB Weld didn't work worth a darn for that poor mold.
CNC Molds N Stuff
I have a mold that one of the aluminum handles broke off. JB Weld didn't work worth a darn for that poor mold. It probably wouldn't work for anything like that. You could cut both handles off smooth, and then drill and tap the mold for some threaded rod and phenolic handles. That's the way I make handles for my lead molds anyway. http://yumabassman.com/forums-new/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=10 Take your time and plan it well, I don't know if you might break a cast aluminum mold if you get too aggressive tapping. I'ld probably go with a slightly larger drill bit and about 50-60% threads. I use a spiral flute machine tap for that sort of blind hole, but you can probably get away with a hand tap if you remove it from the hole and blow all the chips out EVERY thread. TapMagic is best for tapping aluminum, but WD40 works fair.
