Mystery Lure Part - Can You Help Identify It?

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang,

I have a mystery lure part that I need help identifying.

Have you ever seen this, know what it is called or know what it might be for?

It's possible that this isn't in its final, finished state. Maybe it's supposed to be bent or formed into a different shape, not flat like this.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give!

I think you are on to something here.  I seem to recall lures that I fished with in the 70's that had to be made in the 50's or 60's that this would work on.  The two holes were for screwing the lip onto the front and bottom of the lure, the lip bent down.

But........ I was a kid so my memory is surly questionable about this.  :?

It actually came from a lure parts factory that closed up, so I know it's some kind of part for lure making.

My guess would be some kind of metal diving lip to be used on wooden lure bodies, but it was never finished and should have been bent downward to create the angle for the actual diving lip, and the holes would be used to screw it to the bottom of the lure body.

How about this!  It looks like a stamped part that missed the final die and it's not finished.  It still needs a kink between the two holes that would be the front hook hanger and another bend to angle the lip down.

Just a guess!

The body is stamped, but the holes are drilled. I would say hand drilled due to the central inaccuracy, also the drill needed sharpening. The part may have been rejected, hense not made it to the final operation. Found in a box of scraps maybe.
