When To Add Scent?

Recommended Posts

I always added scent to the plastic itself, and it works great if that's what you choose to do.  It's always best to add the scent just a few seconds before pouring.

Just remember there are some scents that are water-based, and you NEVER wanna put them in hot plastic!

It would help if we knew the brands/scents you plan on using......

Garlic is definitely one of the stronger scents.  I'd only use about 3 to 4 drops per cup, and any scent made by Lure Craft is okay to add in the plastic.

If you call and ask Kim she will tell you herself that you are burning off the actual scent and recommend that you add to the baits after

To each his own, as they say.  I haven't spoken to Kim about it.  I can just speak from personal experience.  All my baits were made with scent IN the plastic, and I could smell that stuff on the bait LONG after several casts.  But hey........whatever works for YOU is what's important.  This is just one man's opinion.  Take it for what it's worth.

Doug here from Upper Hand Scents. I have this question asked very frequently and like some guys have mentioned, scent oil will cook out to some degree. The longer it sits in your pot/cup, the more it will disperese. I pour my own tournament baits and my best suggestion is to add the scent just prior to pouring into molds. Get your plastic all colored, softened/hardened, etc... then stir well, add scent, reheat briefly

( since the cooler oil lowers plastic temp. ) and then shoot your baits. It works extremely well for me. Remember guys, we make over 17 varieties! We get orders from International countries all the time! These guys have tried the others, but they say UPPER HAND SCENTS are the best! That I am not making up, we hear it all the time! The e-mails from these guys and their success stories are awesome!

Some updates since I have not posted in some time: Our best selling scents ( 100% oil based ) are: TOAD MAGNET ( anise & garlic ), HAWG SAUCE ( craw ), COFFEE SHAD, JAVA N GARLIC and GARLIC. This is based on our past two years of sales. Our garlic is insane!! if your looking for a strong garlic, this will knock your socks off! We also have worked extremely hard on filtering the coffee shad since guys have had issues in the past with the dark color of coffee shad. We have triple filtered it now and it is half as dark as it was when we first launched it years and years ago. We also have made numerous custom scents for clients. Feel free to call if you ever need to discuss something or need help. Doug 262-483-2809
