This rod will be used for smallmouth bass in rivers from a kayak using small jigs, flukes and other soft plastics. Here is the order I'm about to place with mudhole.com. The only part I'm unsure of is which epoxy to and finisher to use? What works best for you guys? I will be doing the wraps and drying by hand. So I guess an epoxy that dries reasonable quick would be best since I will be turning it by hand. I'm also not 100% sold on the handle kit. I kind of want to make my own handle from individual cork rings and turning it down myself. so I might go that route instead of a kit. Lilpdriverrat Posted February 13, 2015 Report Share Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) For the grip get either rod bond 5min or pro paste epoxy. Use this to glue handle and reel seat to blank also. For guide wraps use flex coat, prokote, or thread master finish. They all work great, just a matter of preference. chasn_steels Posted November 30, 2015 Report Share Posted November 30, 2015 Hello fellow members. Im new to TU, & I am planning to build my first ice rod. Im looking to build 30-40 inch ice rods, specifically noodle rods, & quick tips. I have checked out the mudhole sites, but I am still clueless on how all these components work. What do I need as a first time builder to get off on the right track? I would like to produce quality rods, & with that in mind, I am willing to go the extra mile for quality components, & tools. Lastly, what do most folks use to dip or paint rod tip wirh? Ive seen this done on multiple ice rod tips. In all honesty, Im tired of paying $$$ for high quality rods.
