Cant seem to decide between them to pair them with my 13 fishing omen rod. I recently got two PQ's on sale for $50 a piece which was a great deal but it being winter has restricted my ability to test them out. Currently Im looking at the Tournament MG $80 on sale at cabelas soon, Tournament MB $130 and the Tournament speed spool $120. Please help with this difficult decision. Are lews all their hyped up to be or are they just a quality reel like the PQ? If you had to incorporate price into this which is a better buy? Musky Glenn Posted March 24, 2015 Report Share Posted March 24, 2015 Do you know which company makes the Pro Qualifier? I haven't used the PQ but the Lew's seems to work nicely. For my money I would probably look at the Garcia Black or Silver Max. Those are smooth reels also. I would take a trip to Bass Pro and hand test all of them. Good luck. Venutian_Lures Posted March 27, 2015 Report Share Posted March 27, 2015 I have both of the reels you are looking at, the Bass Pro PQ and the Lew's. In all honesty and personal opinion, I prefer the Lew's over the Bass Pro reel. Both are good reels, but for the price you really can't beat the Bass Pro PQ. It's a great value and is absolutely worth buying as a back up or for someone just getting started with bait casting. From my experience so far, I would have to say yes, that Lew's are really all they are hyped up to be. Super smooth, casting distance, durable, etc etc etc. I can't really help you pick one over the other, because I bought both of them. poundtowne Posted April 7, 2015 Report Share Posted April 7, 2015 I'm not sure about the BPS line but I can speak on the Lews. I own 9 Lew's Tournament Pro baitcasters. I owned 1 Tournament (not the pro version) at first and decided to give them all my business after one season. I have fished Quantum and Shimanos in the past but after fishing Lews I won't ever switch back. Lews has EXCELLENT customer service and provides replacement parts for free or super cheap and their reels are incredibly smooth and durable with real metal parts (unlike Okuma and many others). Bassinfool Posted April 27, 2015 Report Share Posted April 27, 2015 I will only ever own three companies reels: Lews, Shimano and Abu Garcia. I have a few speed spools, a tournament series from Lews as well as a Calcutta and Curadoi series from Shimano along with several Revo's and Orra's from Abu. ALL are great reels in their own right but for the PRICE you pay, the speed spool from Lews and the Orra from Abu are the two reels I would recommend most in that price range. They're low maintenance, easy and enjoyable to use and flat out work. I haven't run into a single issue with any of my reels so far and the majority of them have been owned for more than 2-3 years of hard fishing.
