For my bass jigs I like Danville 210 denier flat waxed nylon, a waxed thread grips the material better and you don't get "friction spots" or weak areas where the thread rubs against itself. When tying silicone or rubber you don't need a waxed thread but I feel it is essential with buck tail. For Musky size buck tails I know a lot of guys like the 400 denier Uni Thread Big Fly thread, that probably has close to 6lbs of break strength, this is what I would use for Musky and Stripers.
