Musky0503
Why do most companies use Mustad Hooks as a measuring stick so to speak of what their vises will hold? Are they extra thick or thin or what? Thank you for your help
CNC Molds N Stuff
Maybe its because OEMs can call Mustad and get samples of any hook they want to try out with minimal fuss. I just had Mustad send me some hook samples for a saltwater jig mold I am working on. For ease of working with I've found them to be in this order. 1. Daiichi (any TTI brand) - Pretty much anything I ask for. 2. Mustad - Hooks on demand. Easy to contact. 3. Owner - Hooks on demand. Contact not always consistent, but I get what I ask for if I take the effort. 4. Eagle Claw - 5. Gamakatsu - To be fair, TTI and I have a relationship that goes back about 15 years, so they may treat me better than average. I often go out and buy TTI hooks for my own use so as to not abuse our friendship. Edited June 27, 2015 by Bob La Londe
smalljaw
I believe Mustad is the most widely used hook, but I haven't heard of vise manufactures using Mustad hooks as a bench mark, where did you find this information? Most what I see from vise manufacturers is hook types as they will usually tell you their vise will hold a certain size midge hook but I never heard any mention of brand so I'm curious. Musky0503
here is one, I just cleaned out all my bookmarks so I don't have the info right now http://www.saltwateredge.com/swe-rotary-jig-vise.html
smalljaw
Now that is a first for me, I never saw any company specify hook brand but I don't look for saltwater stuff either.

Pup
Mustad used to supply some of the best hook documentation in the business...online. Haven't looked for it in quite some time, but that'd be my observation. Mustad sets my hook size standards for me.
