Lures You Don't Use?

What do you guys do with lures you don't use or haven't used in years? I am an admitted tackle hoarder and run out of room every few years. In years past I would give them to the local kids but they have all either grown up or moved so now I have a lot of soft plastics that I don't use and can't throw away. There kind of like Doritos I can't just but one pack I have to have multiple colors, sizes ect, ect. Then when I don't like the way they preform they go into a box and sit. I've made molds and melted them down to pour stuff I like but soft plastic pouring just isn't my thing and as I get older it seems I only fish certain things no matter if I have the intention if trying something else. Sorry to ramble but curious to see what you guys do.

Jaw, I too have this same affliction.  A few years ago, I gave all of mine to my wife to use in a rummage sale. All of it new stuff probably a couple of hundred bags. She sold them for 25¢ a bag. I accumulated another fairly large collection again and just recently found someone I work with who bank fishes. I asked him if he would use them if He had them. he answered yes and was glad to get them. I felt much better about that than letting unknowns have them for practically nothing.

I'm a park ranger and keep the extras in my work truck. I give my extras to kids and or regulars of the park I work at. It gives me an excuse to talk fishing at work a lot.

I have a bunch of Rapala and Strike King crankbaits that I don't use. I don't like lures that I haven't made or painted. I have repainted a few and given them to my 8 year old niece (she loved them).

I am the Youth Director of a local teenage bass team.  Many bass fishermen "clean out their locker" and donate baits and tackle, rods and reels, to me for the bass team.  Helps the kids that are starting out and the ones that have trouble affording all these expensive plastics.  That's what I do too.  I suggest you look into a local youth fishing club and help them out.  If it is not bass specific, I give it to a local High School Fishing Club.  You might be able to find these fishing teams/clubs by asking at your local tackle stores.  Check out your local TBF (The Bass Federation)  for each state may have a listing on their web site.  Ours is listed on the California Bass Federation under the "Youth" tab.  Other states should be similar.  Youth fishing is growing and High School Teams Bass Fishing is really taking off.  You can also check out highschoolfishing.org.

 

It helps the kids out and you get your shop back.

I need to check on the high school fishing team idea not sure if there are any local, also looking at the boys or girls clubs of America that are local.

I used to give a lot of it away to kids when fishing at local places.  However have a lot still and manage to find bargains on stuff just more selective.  My kids have shown little interest in fishing and don't see that changing but always a chance.  I keep thinking I should just ebay a lot of the stuff as even at bargain prices going to add up.

I donate all my extra stuff to Wounded Warrior/Veterans Fishing type charities. Or sometimes I'll try to host auctions to raise money for a charity that doesn't want my fishing crap, like ASPCA, Laura's Fund etc.

Look into various things.  High school fishing clubs can always use tackle.  Youth fishing clinics can be a great place to give somethings away depending on how they are run.  Our local Rod & Gun club does a free parent child derby every year.  There are always kids who show up with nearly nothing and sometimes nothing at all.  I fish a Draw Team club and sometimes the partners I draw don't have much stuff.  Look around and be proactive about finding opportunities to give the stuff you don't use away right in your own community.
