JDO43113 Posted August 21, 2015 Report Share Posted August 21, 2015 Hi, I am brand new to pouring my own aoft plastics and really want to learn how to do this. My main goals are to be able to pour my own tubes, senkos, and river bug type creatures. I'm hoping the experts on here and offer some advice/tips on what molds I should look at purchasing and what all I'll need to do this successfully. All help is greatly appreciated. jeffhill Posted August 22, 2015 Report Share Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) First this first, welcome to your new addiction! All of the manufacturers make senko molds. I use the Basstackle stick molds and have had absolutely no issues with them. As for river bug type baits, that's pretty much just a personal preference. Tubes is another can of worms. The downside to the tube molds is they're a bit pricy. I have 2 of the do-it tube molds and both shoot flawlessly. I would go right to injection as you will get bored with pouring pretty fast. I have a nice injector and Senko mold for $110 shipped if interested. Either by molding your favorite baits to make endless copies Or..... Travis Posted August 23, 2015 Report Share Posted August 23, 2015 I dip my tubes as was not satisfied with the injected tubes. I would inject the other two as easy to find molds, a really friendly learning curve and you can knock out a lot of baits quickly. Pouring has a much larger leaning curve and one that frankly some never could or can learn. Injection really opened up bait making for so many. Boring....for me is doing a mindless task repetitively. BBA Posted August 27, 2015 Report Share Posted August 27, 2015 I have been pouring for 4-5 years now, and will defiantly say that I have defiantly not gotten board with it at all. But to each his own. I have open pour senko type molds from lurecraft that work very well for me. I the only style of senko I can't make is a swirl. Hand pouring I can still make laminates, senkos with tails and few other ways that can't be made using injection. One thing I love about open pouring is how easy it is to duplicate baits and make replica molds. I have a few creature molds that obviously produce flat sided baits. I haven't noticed any fish preference in creatures with flat bottoms versus and injected creature. Nice advantage with open pouring things like creatures is sky's the limits as to what you can do with colours an patterns. Lot easier to make multi coloured appendages or make a bait with more than two colours laminated together. I can't say much about injection as I don't really have much experience there. But after learning the basics of hand pouring you can produce some baits that are very unique and original. I'm just getting into dipping tubes so again can't say much there other that at the moment after only a few runs, I will say they are time consuming.
