Dave, they arent scoffing anymore... For the past several years there has been at least one NFL game played in London each season... Last year there was even talk of London wanting its own franchise

As for your rugby.. I dont know much about it, but so far im quite impressed with Jared Hayne (former rugby star going NFL)!!!

Even back in the 80's, a pre-season game was always played in London Wembley stadium.

Yes, there has always been talk of a franchise. But, that team would have to be formed of US players because until a high percentage of schools take on the game, we will never have a big enough platform of players to choose the best from.

You have proved that a game can be introduced to a professional level, with soccer, but the game grew from school level, giving a good ground base. A sprinkling of retired UK professionals to raise the quality and the game is thriving.

To be fair I do sometimes pickup on the excitement and watch a championship if the public buzz is high.  Well, and of course home town (home state) interest is there.  I once put an aerial on my scissor lift and ran a cable in the back door to watch the Diamondbacks in the World Series, because I couldn't get the games on satellite.

And I did watch that iconic Bears Super Bowl with the Fridge in 1986.  If I recall I hadn't planned to watch it, but my local bar was announcing the winners of our local asshole of the year vote, and they were having a big steak BBQ.

I would not recognize any NFL names of today, but I used to follow the game back in the 80's and 90's. The obvious names that spring to mind are Joe Montana and Jerry Rice at the 49ers. Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith of the Cowboys. Dan Marino was a joy to watch, John Elway too.

UK didn't show that much NFL, and it tended to be the showcase stuff, so there are a lot of stars of that era that I probably never saw.

UK sports fans tend to scoff at NFL, with all the padding and the stopping and starting. But this is because they never took time out to look at the game properly. This from the people that brought the world test cricket, Pfft!

I like Australian rules too.

Hey,  I remember Emmit Smith... from Dancing With the Stars.  LOL

Used to love watching the Cowboys play, but when Skeletor bought the team it pretty much ruined it for me. Haven't watched a football game in years. Never did care much for watching baseball. Used  to love playing the game, but watching it is a different story. While there's way more strategy in baseball than a lot of people realize it's just too slow to watch. At least for me.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned fishing. Still love to fish more than breathing, but the old body doesn't keep up as well as it once did.
