I bought Eagle Claw 570 in size 2 and 4 which you see at the top and bottom. I'm now confident it's either a VMC or a Mustad. Can any of you help me identify it? thanks in advance. dlaery Posted September 16, 2015 Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 Well in my opinion there is not that much diff between the 3 hooks, Eagle Claw 570, Mustad 32755BR and VMC 9147BZ. My guess it is a #4. Maybe it is a #3? Just kidding on the 3. When i get back to the shop I'll post some pics of those brands of those sizes. The top hook looks to be close to the same size as the middle but the middle hook appears to be bronze. Anyway, if you go to Captain hooks you can get the Eagle Claw L570BP, here is the important part, it has to have the "L" designation in front. The "L" stands for "laser sharp" which have a wicked needle point, but Captain hooks sells the regular 570, a 570BP which is a normal 570 with the black platinum finish and then they have the "L"570BP which is the laser sharp black platinum. If you take that hook, it matches up with a Mustad 32746 perfectly but the Eagle Claw is sharper, you'll know if you have the right model as you'll see a significant jump in price, about $6 more per 100 than the regular 570. Kscatman76 Posted September 16, 2015 Author Report Share Posted September 16, 2015 it doesn't have to be exact, I'm making my own trout jigs, which they don't have the biggest mouths in the world but I think the big one is close enough that it shouldn't be an issue. It's more in my head than anything wanting to have something as close as I can to the jig head I've been using with great success for several years. Kscatman76 Posted September 17, 2015 Author Report Share Posted September 17, 2015 Man I poured up a bunch of ned heads and pony head jigs with the sickles and they are wicked sharp but goodness gracious mine break all the time. better than half of them have broke, usually on the shaft. smalljaw Posted September 17, 2015 Report Share Posted September 17, 2015 There is a fix, the Eagle Claw 500BP Lil Nasty, it is Eagle Claws version of the sickle hook in the black platinum finish. I have used over 1000 of the size 2, 1, and 1/0 and I'll tell you right now, the wire is better than the Matzuo sickles, the Eagle Claw version is just as sharp and much stronger but keep in mind, it is still an Aberdeen hook which is designed to bend when a lot of pressure is applied. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
