Quantum Kvd Pt And Quantum Code

Recommended Posts

I purchased both of these reels so that I could flip them. I cleaned and tuned both reels. After putting them back together I began to test. They both perform very well with one exception. The cast control on both reels are making noise. I in turn oil the tabs in the cast control and the noise is still there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

After all this time and reel repair. I have come to the Conclusion that I wouldnt buy a Quantum reel if I could help it. Everone of them is Junk after a year except for the Japanese made Energy. The Cast Control is the problem. And Quantum could careless about it. Heck Even the Reels the Elite Anglers use make the same noise. And thats embarrassing. Daiwa makes the Best Reels on the Market.

I have fished Quantum reels for years, because they were an affordable reel that was "light" and had externally adjustable cast controls.

Their Energy reels were bulletproof, except for the finish.

Their PT upgrades always seemed to be just a step away from good, with something just off.

I loved their EXO reels, but they went away from the externally adjusted cast controls, and their gears seemed to wear after a while.

I now fish their Smoke 100 reels ( since the Burner came out), and they are, once again, bulletproof.

Finally!

I have a Question that I hope someone can help with, I just picked up a new in the box Quantum PT KVD 101 spta left hand the 100 spta is right hand. This reel has the Centrmag cast control system which is the dual cast control.  Centrifugal adjustments are made under the cover on the spool I understand that. Now the magnetic adjustments are made on the outside dial on the cover which moves the magnets in or out away from the spool, However their is nothing on the spool that is Magnetic? The spool shaft is non magnetic, And the spool is 100% aluminum Sooo Just how does the mag adjustment affect the spool without anything magnetic on it?? I Don't believe their is in fact a dual cast control on this reel just centrifugal cast control.  If you have one of these Please take a look and tell me I'm Crazy. Thanks Jaa

The magnets create a magnetic wave which creates resistance on the spool even though there is no actual magnetic attraction. The magnets move closer to and farther away from the spool according to how you have them set. The closer the magnets are to the spool the more resistance this magnetic wave has on the spool.

At least that's how it was explained to me.

Here a couple years ago I was "hot rodding" a reel used for throwing deep crankbaits and was considering buying a magnetic breaking aftermarket add-on for an ABU 6500 and had the very same questions about the magnetic braking as you did. That was the explanation they gave me. Exactly how much impact it has I really can't say. Unless you have a highly educated thumb your still going to need centrifugal braking in addition to the magnetic braking.

For increasing distance with high line capacity reels the best thing you can do IMO is to remove the level wind. There is a massive amount of energy that goes into working the level wind. It takes a little practice to learn how to guide the line back onto the reel manually, but if distance is what your looking for it's well worth it.

On the same line of voodoo magic, how does Garcia (round reels) slow down the spool by tightening the cast control knob when the spool turns freely on two ball bearings on the spool shaft. Looks like to me if the shaft was locked down completely the spool would still be free floating.???? Thanks for any ideas

There is a thin wavy brass washer under the handle side spool bearing in my Ambassadeur Pro Max reels. When you tighten the cast control, it compresses that little washer and provides braking. Don't know about other Abu round reels, but that is how it works on mine.
