Powder Coating Dropshot Weights

Recommended Posts

I powder coat them with harbor freight powder just like 21. In all honesty, I can't believe it would make a difference if it's painted or not, but I'm so picky it bothers me when they aren't.

I've had tons of smallmouth bite the weight when I'm bed fishing. Maybe a bright lead weight would scare 1 fish off a year, but that's enough reason for me.

I like mine shiny. When the bait and weight are falling through the water column after a cast it looks like the bait is chasing the weight to the bottom to check it out or eat it. Wired2fish had a good video with Gary Klein on this subject and he said the majority of his bites came on the fall. I would just spray paint them so the weren't shiny, powder coating seems like a lot of work at the rate I lose these!

Thanks Gang. I use the black and red from Harbor freight to give a brown color to the weight.

Besides using them myself I sell they a local craft and sportsman's fairs. I"ll se how my sales go this coming sale season.

Just wish I bought some long shaft Christmas ornament wire hangers This past season. They are the perfect wire to heat, dip then bake them on.
