Swim Jig With Sb Shaped Head

Recommended Posts

I don't see a stock jig mold with a conical head such as a Spinnerbait does, so I assume a mold modification would be required to makes one. I'm interested in making some Swimbait jigs that pull from the front center like the Do-It Yamamoto jig, except with a more conical shape and maybe an Owner 5318 hook.

I know some of you guys could McGiver up a nuclear hula-hoop with your eyes closed so your thoughts are most welcome.

I use the casting jig that is sometimes listed as a grass jig, it comes in 2 molds but I only use the 1/8oz, 3/16oz, and 1/4oz mold. It uses the 32886 Mustad 30 degree hook so it pulls from the front and the slight angle allows it to run true and level. Where I get confused is you want the jig to be pulled from the front with an Owner 5318 hook which is a 90 degree Aberdeen style hook that is light wire with a needle point. Anyway, if you go to the weedless molds on Barlows site, look at the grass jig mold, I think it is a great design, it is very basic but does an excellent job.

Thank you, SJ.

What I meant to say about the hook - hoping to find something that works as well as that Owner 5318. It really works well for me at keeping a bass buttoned up without being difficult to remove quickly. While not cheap, it has been my go-to hook for Poison & Snootie jigs.

Of course, that idea came from guys like you and Cadman with help from Barlow.

I will definitely look at the grass jig. Thanks, again.

I have used the 2724BP in that mold, it is a little lighter wire and while it does fit you get a little flash because the post in the hook eye is too large for the eye on the 2724BP.  What I dis was take a needle file to the post, and I too like a lighter wire hook since I use lighter line with the smaller jig sizes.

I have never understood what the GY jig was trying to accomplish. Isn't this just a very line-twist-prone jig? Why would one put the line time in the very nose? What keeps it from just spinning all the way to the boat?

I think the A rig is what they had in mind for that jig.

I have that mold and have tried using it on an arig. Hated it because it will spin around and go hook down. I pulled up everything in the lake besides bass. One thing it does work well on is the swim ripper, if you want an exposed hook. I imagine any swim bait that will orient itself in the water would be good on it. That said, on the a rig, I am much happier with do its Shad Head Rig Jig.
