Difference In Jig Heads

Recommended Posts

The main reason for a mushroom head is to have the majority of weight on top and centered on the hook to help the bait fall straight down and allow the bait to be stood up by pulling or dragging it along the bottom. The reason people like it on a NED rig is because the flat bottom lines up with the head of a stick worm that is commonly used on that rig, so when the worm head and bottom of the jig line up it creates a seamless connection which helps it come through light weeds and cover a little better as well as it allows it to fall more naturally. I've used both round heads and mushroom style and at 1/16oz, it makes little difference but once you go up in weight it becomes a factor but that doesn't mean a different style head won't work.
