BobP Posted January 22, 2017 Report Share Posted January 22, 2017 Yes, assuming you employ the right protective equipment to avoid contact with the very toxic chemicals contained in some of that stuff. Auto paint shops use space suits, rated filter masks, and filtered exhaust systems for a reason. Most of us hobby painters go with acrylic water based paint and several less toxic clearcoats to avoid the hassle and expense of all that safety equipment. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My buddy does airbrushing mainly on vehicles and i was going to get him to paint some baits for me but I didn't want to have to buy all new paint for him if he could just use what he has. gone2long Posted January 22, 2017 Report Share Posted January 22, 2017 If he's airbrushing cars chances are he's using auto air, autobourne, house of color, custom shop or something similar ask him what he's using it may be one of these or similar, true automotive paint is not often used for airbrush work because of suitability issues with the equipment. BobP Posted January 22, 2017 Report Share Posted January 22, 2017 Well, if it's your buddy and not you, the safety considerations are his and not yours to worry about. Crankbaits operate in a lot rougher environment than vehicles do. But if your buddy uses two-part automotive clearcoats (those are the tough but toxic ones) you'll get a durable bait.
