stencils for painting

Recommended Posts

I use an art material called frisket that is designed for stencils.  It's a roll of plastic sheeting that has an adhesive paper backing.  Easy to cut with an Xacto knife.  I cut the stencil but leave the backing on it rather than sticking it on fresh lure paint.  That lets me flip the stencil to do both sides of the lure, then save it for future baits.  Hold it firmly against the lure, shoot, wipe/dry the stencil, repeat.  It comes in a 12" wide roll that lasts a crankbait painter for many years.

I use frisket like BobP for wooden or plastic. I also use the divider that is in drink cans boxes (cardboard). I like these for wooden baits because I can tear at it to make it jagget to get a more realistic pattern. Frisket is a little hard to do this to. Making a vacuum stencil for wooden, hand shaped baits doesn't always work.

You can use all types of things to get a pattern. Someone here several years ago was using cooking tungs  to get a perch pattern. Your imagination is the only thing that limits you.

Making good stencils is as much of an art as the painting is!

Lots of good info on YouTube and this site.

As mentioned, milk containers work amazingly well.

There are some mentions on this site to folks that sell material on ebay.
