would i just need to route out a groove just big enough to pinch the wire in to the mold.

For a straight wire like that, I would get the wire I wanted to use, lay it in the mold and tape it so it will stay put. Then take it to my bench vise and put the mold in it and close it. Won't hurt a thing and you will end up with a very nice modification. Might want to use a new wire for each cavity as things get smashed a little in this process.

You may have to, if the mold flashes, fshng2. That said, you should have a great line to work with. I use a small triangular file turned on one of its apex's for straight lines like this. Don't remove too much material though. What I always do when removing material is go slow, remove a bit and put my part in. Close the mold and hold it up to a light. If it's not closing all the way, you will see light between the mold halves.
