Hard 3d eyes for soft plastics?

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

was wondering if there is any downside to using a hard 3d  eyes on a top water frog bait...or any kind of non top water swimmy baits for that matter ?

my fear is that they will weigh down the bait and interfere with the intended action

any input would be appreciated!

thanks!

Soft plastics tend to have their action near the rear so the added weight form the hard 3D eye up front has no impact at all.  In fact, it lessens the need for some ballast or weight in many cases.

I see no downside to using hard 3D eyes, and indeed use them myself many times.  I found this link thanks to a TU member some time ago.

What mold is that? I really need to find a good bluegill mold...the bass and northern pike (unfortunately) LOVE bluegill on the river.

Hard eyes need to be clear dipped and still fall off easily.

Monte......I had a mold similar to that (it may have been the same one, but the tail looks a bit different,) but could never get it to swim right.   Modify after modify after modify and I finally gave up.  Curious to know how yours swims?

Not with the ones I gave him.  He may need to trim the post shorter, or put a tube through the bait and glue the post to the tube from both sides, but, ..........
