Eye color for crankbaits?

Recommended Posts

Maybe not such a big thing but I think it depends on whether you want more contrast in the color scheme or less.  If more, red.  If less, yellow.  I would probably choose red if those are the only colors available.

red looks better to me, but, probably more important is what will the fish prefer.  unless of course, it's buyer's you are trying to catch. I don't know, I like my eyes to contrast with the lure, personally. I always try all my different styles on each lure to see which goes best, and I usually lean towards lighter on a darker lure and vice-versa.

Do you have silver and black to try?  Curious how that would look.. but red is good, i'd probably accent the gill with a red line too and pink the throat..so it would break up all the yellow.. I love that color by the way..

Thank you for all the replies.

Bonepile - I am not ready for buyers just yet but I am trying to get a few locally.

Cyber - I tried a silver/black and it did not look as good to me as these two colors did. I will try the gill slash in red next time. I might even put a throat patch on a couple too.

I think the yellow looks more natural. maybe spray the eye location with a shot of black, then the yellow eye on top of that. that little bit of black background around the yellow might make it pop nicely.
