Sink rates paint vs wraps

Recommended Posts

I doubt that you would notice any difference.

I don't know what the density of paint is, so let us assume 1.2g/cm3 the same as epoxy. This means that only 1/6th of the weight of the paint is added to the ballast.

A coat of epoxy probably will make a difference that is noticeable, but again, only 1/6th of the weight of the epoxy is added to the ballast.

When experimenting with neutral lures, I came to the conclusion that a fine adjustment would be 1/200th of the weight of the lure. So, if your lure weighed say 2oz or 60g, a fine adjustment would be 0.3g. if your dried paint or wrap is less than this weight then the effect will be minimal, again, keeping in mind that only 1/6th of the weight goes to ballast.

Not sure what the wrap would be made from, but if some sort of polyelefin shrink, most of those are less dense than water, so would decrease shrink rate. I agree with Dave that paint should not really affect it much, but a think clearcoat would. That said, you may clearcoat both.
