Problem with spinnerbait mold

Recommended Posts

I have a Do-It mold Spinner Jig SJ-4-A and for some reason no hooks fit right (see pics). Am I missing something or do I just need to break out the Dremel.

The slot for the hook shank is too wide and short after the ball collar... Allowing the hook to lean/fall down.

Try placing strips of tape on the mold halves to build up the area where the writing appears. Build it up until the hook fits snugly.

The hook point falls into the area that is the flat part of the mold. Looking at it I will have to Dremel the shit out of the mold, pour straight wires, or really bend out the frames and pour upside down.

Since the mold calls for an eagle claw 253, That has a short shank, It must be meant to pour the other way with straight wires.

You can also bent out the wire until you can close the mold and ladle pour. After you flip it like mentioned above.

Your options are limited.  That is the old style of mold so you will probably be best to dremel out a slot for the hook point to fit in the mold.  Either that or bend the wires.  You can see how the newer molds have the aluminum removed so the hooks will fit.

Paid $15 for this at a tackle swap meet so I am not out much either way. I will see what I feel like doing in the next week whether it gets the Dremel or sold.

Have you tried turning the hook and the wire over. I think the hook is facing the wrong way in your picture. The point of the hook should be on the hinge side of the mold or at least this is the way that I pour my spinnerbaits.

I figured he was molding them that way so he could get the blade arm of the wire farther out from the mold without bending it.   I have done that from time to time when I wanted to set the hook further down in the mold so it sticks out more.
