Do you want a trailer on a chatterbait?

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I was just curious if anyone uses trailers on chatterbaits? I know they're designed to produce a certain frequency. I've tested the feel of a grub trailer and it seemed to work. But I normally don't use a trailer... To use a trailer or not on chatterbaits, tis the question?

Trailers can add bouancy and changes the profile , caught lots of fish with and without but tend to use a trailer . Split tails , paddle tails , swimbaits and even length of the skirt will effect how the trailer does and doesn't work

They are an effective bait either way

I use a trailer 90%+ of the time (the only time I don't is if I'm fishing for smaller bass or smallmouth). It acts like a rudder to keep the bait running true and  "noise" for the bait to help the bass zero in via it's lateral line (especially in off color water where I use chatterbaits the most).

Like Skidder I often cut down the length of the trailer so the bait doesn't get to long and get short strikes.
