Water slide decal source?

3 posts in this topic

I'm pumped up and ready to experiment with these, but as I searched I realized the prices were up there a little. Any one got a good source? Also, I'm not quite clear on this, but with an inkjet printer, do you have to seal it with krylon clear acrylic before you water and sponge it? Thanks in advance guys...

hey bass-catcher,

When you pick up krylon clear acylic get the mirical clear enamel too. It'll come in handy if your doing a curved lure

After you have your decal printed, tape the sheet to a piece of paneling and prop it in front of a fan. Let the the ink completley dry before sealing with krylon clear acrylic. If the decal isn't thuroughly sealed the print will rub off when you sponge it down. Too much sealant and the decal gets a little thick and stubborn to wrap.

When applying the decal..

If you have a decal that won't lay flat and is retaining air and kinks on the edges,.. get it as close as possible then let it dry. The excess bubbles and kinks can be dealt with by spraying the clear enamel over top the decal....

The enamel will react with the acrylic and the decal will krinkle and "melt" onto the lure. It will look a mess but don't panic. The decal film will keep all the details sharp and intact. Let it dry overnite in front of a fan and topcoat with epoxy. The cracks in the acrylic will fill and disapear in the topcoat.

Rounded lures are harder to do but with a well planned tailered decal they will wrap.

Let us know how they turn out.

Tight lines,

Shawn
